About Philippa

My whole career (21 years and counting) has been spent working with technology – predominantly working with software as a developer, project manager or programme manager.

I’ve always been more interested in what can be achieved with technology in a business context rather than the use of technology purely for its own sake. It is critical to understand what the business needs are and what the clients’ goals are before suggesting any solutions – technical or otherwise.

If possible, I prefer to work face to face with people to really understand their business and what the problem is that they are trying to solve. I believe good communication is key to successful technology projects.

Career Background

I began my career in 1991 working as a programmer at Save & Prosper. After 3 years with Save & Prosper, I joined JP Morgan in Equities Technology to work as a business analyst and project manager. In 1999 I was approached by a headhunter to interview for a role with Goldman Sachs. I was successful in my application, and worked in Technology at Goldman Sachs until April 2007. During my time there I project managed a number of different technology projects for the Asset Management and the Private Wealth Management areas.

In early 2007, I decided to leave the city for a change of lifestyle. I started Vision Computing in early 2008 with the aim of helping local businesses to use technology more effectively.

Education

I hold a BSc (Hons) in Natural Sciences from Durham University. The two main subjects I studied during my degree were Maths and Computing. I also hold a post graduate diploma in Management, Communication and Decision Making from Royal Holloway College, University of London.

During my career I have taken a number of professional courses in subjects such as:
Business analysis techniques
Object Oriented analysis and design methods
Project management techniques
